Vegetarians for Political Meat in the 3 D supe race

5-6 pm
Come read your outrageously satiric take on how politicians, policy wonks, and lib-lab-pre-natal socialists are assiduously avoiding advocating using community-generated land values to resolve San Francisco (and the world's) housing crises.
Leon Phat, the only candidate who is challenging the palaver and politick boot-licking rhetoric of the two front running candidates for San Francisco's 3rd supervisorial district will be on hand to read from his own literary sarcaso-geographic phantasmagoria, 17 Ways to Lower the Price of Real Estate in San Francisco.
While remaining civil, this literary event at Christensen's campaign office, featuring you, will introduce to the public the Christensen campaign's anemic response to the biggest issue in San Francisco: displacement.
The other front runner is the second course, time to be determined.

walking tour

9:30am-Noon
Leon Walras was a 19th Century French economist who detailed why socializing all land values was the correct thing to do; however, friends, neighbors, and family told him being right wasn't worth losing their rung on the ladder to becoming the 1%, so he dissembled.
Leon PHAT doesn't dissemble!
Socialize land values!
What gives in a segment-of-the-population salary-happy city where rents are driving folks out or to the wall? Story-telling is called for to stir up civic action along the lines of the current San Francisco Main Library 5th floor revolutionary rhetoric . . .the words of T. Jefferson, John Adams, G. Washington . . . that crowd.
Come along on a walking tour of San Francisco real estate featuring the lurid, libidinous folk tales of Salty Oldhmann. Get the dirt on the condo towers, the Embarcadero Muralists, the Chinatown underground MUNI extension, and the 17th District Assembly race.
The walk is free. But your notions of who's the enemy will be shackled forever, committed to oblivion, and you'll enter a new dimension of existential possibility that will challenge your understanding of LIBERAL.

SF Shopping Center
Knock-off displacement walking tour
685 Ellis St. in SF
Noon-2 pm
Come meet Leon as he leads the tour!
Did you know that the land under the San Francisco Shopping Center (5th and Market) is owned by the public? All the rent from that site helps pay for the education of SF school kids!
Extend that model across all of San Francisco and we'd raise $20B a year.
That would end land speculation. Raise hoards of revenue for all the public infrastructure now out there. End mortgages on land values. And settle the displacement crisis.
Walk starts at the American Youth Hostel.
Come along on a walking tour that traces the history of SF social movements, leading up to the born-in-SF-way-back-when proposal to socialize land values big time.
Get the historic perspective informing the current high rents & displacement perspective. Or just stay home and diddle.
It's free! though donations accepted (and donated to the SF Coalition on Homelessness).

Leon Phat strategizing meeting
7-9 pm
189 Ellsworth St.
San Francisco
Dear Commoneers,
As you well know, there's a mayoral election in San Francisco this fall. All the candidates (there may be one libertarian exception) want to keep the abundant social services in place. They all want to ensure well funded public education. They all want to help out small business. Most want to help out the below median income housing populace. And a few recognize that the city's pension obligations are going to gobble up anywhere from 1/8th to 1/6th of city revenue over the next six years (depending upon whether the city can sustain its huge tax bite, the city will have a budget of between 4 and 6 billion $, and the pension obligation is going to average about $700M/year). But the candidates' solutions include taxing business more, a city income tax!, raising parking fines, whistling in the dark.
And meanwhile, land ownership continues on its heavily subsidized way. At most, only a sixth of the value added by public infrastructure (such as paved streets, MUNI, public education (k-university), museums, fire protection, etc.) to land values is retrieved via the land portion of the property tax.
So, a cadre of commoneers have concocted a cyber-candidate for SF mayor who champions retrieving more of land values for the community, and REDUCING other taxes. Real platform. Real public discussion. Fictional candidate. Join us this Thursday, August 18, 7-9 pm as Leon Phat, fictional candidate for SF mayor comes to life even more beneath your fingertips.
Thursday, August 18, 7-9 pm. 189 Ellsworth St in Bernal Heights. Supper provided.
There's already a website: http://www.LeonPhat.com There are banners. There have been Leon Phat supporters at mayoral debates, at Sunday Streets, at house parties (for other candidates) posing hard questions about the subsidy of land owners. Now's your opportunity to tune into the Leon Phat educational campaign.
How does a Leon Phat campaign drive the other candidates in to frank discussion of the effects of different types of revenue-getting (taxes)?
It's fun. It's definitely community engagement. It's educational for the citizenry. And it could make a difference.
